An avid Seti follower since reading about the project in Wired a few years back.
I think the donation of idle-cycles are a good cause, and all companies I've been working for is still donating time ;-) (unfortunately not all to my account ...)

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1) If i have idle CPU why not use it for something good.
2) I think this is a very important exercise. I hope that massive parrallel distributed-computing (like seti) will become more commonplace, I would like to donate cpu time to other projects as well (cure for cancer, aids research etc.)
Update: BOINC looks like a good idea
3. Yes - I whish that the task preference could be set in more detail, i have background tasks suffering on some machines :-(
