Personal background
hi, I'm a bartender in chicago. i do believe in alien life (actually i think i
have served a few cocktails to some) but i'm not sure i believe in intelligent
life similar to us. and i'm not too sure that we are the most advanced critters
on this planet. When i was a kid, my dad built a newtonian telescope and i've
been star gazing ever since. i'm a fan of sci-fi, but not so much the space opera
stuff - i'm mostly into the utopian/dystopian variety. i don't think we'll
find proof of alien life beyond microbes in my lifetime - but wow! wouldn't it
be cool if we did!

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
if intelligent alien life exists i think we'll make great pets for them. sending out a beacon
would be great - almost like an putting an add in the paper for free cats.
i think distributed computing is a wonderful concept. most people have way more
computing power than they need and home computers are idle most of the day.
what a great way to utilize some of that power.
