Personal background
36 year old military carrerist, currently on a nation building tour. Can't say where I am, but am hoping to help Iraq move into the 170's on the standing list of units completed by country. Durring my off time when I'm not watching the SETI@home screen saver, I've been spending my time reading, playing chess and writing emails to my wife and two sons.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
There is a lot of real estate out there, every day we're viewing events that happened millions and millions of light-years away. We're talking "Star Trek" distances. If everything started with the big bang, why wouldn't there be another planet supporting life out there? If life was created, wouldn't there be a control-group out there?

We should send out a message to whoever may or may not be out there. A map of where we are located, information on how to contact by audio/video/data, description of the life-culture-history of the planet would be a start for a greeting. I'd throw in the recipe for Smores. Smores bring people together.

SETI@home... well for a starter, it looks cool. The idea of everyone working together towards a common problem is a winner. If we arn't looking, we'll never see the signal when it arrives.
