Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I think, the work done by SETI makes sense, and should be supported. Mankind needs to have "open senses" towards signals from space - and for people who have fast PCs it is really no problem to run background tasks for SETI. Everybody who gets more or less involed, should be aware that this work should continue as long as mankind exits, and frustration should not arise if no extraterrestrial signal was found in 20 years. It can take 100 or 1000 years ! The radio telescope equipment operational costs should be paid by all international governments. I hope that many more people will provide PC power. First time I noticed SETI was when I read a local newspaper. The people who provide their PC power for SETI should receive profound information about utilized radio telescope technology, and details about the search strategy. For some people, this may be to much technical and scietific information, but for people like me the information would create more enthusiasm about the project.
