Profile: John Jaksich

Personal background
I am a "junior" level scientist by education who has performed research in industry as well as in academia. Currently, however, I am a "fulltime-at-home caretaker" for an elderly parent; also-on occasion I perform chemical computations on biological and theoretically interesting molecules to keep my education as fresh as possible.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Understanding the origins of our solar system as well the search for intelligent ET is probably the most profound undertaking we as a civilization will undertake during the next 100 to 500 years (provided we do not extinguish our existence first). I firmly believe that we, as a civilization, have a cosmic destiny that supersedes our present existence on our planet--it is imperative that we learn to be stewards of our own destiny--not just passive observers. This is why I have chosen to run the SETI@home client as well as other projects--in the hope that we can become who are destined to be: citizens within a grander gesture of destiny and co-existence.
