Profile: Tom and Laura

Personal background
Hello, my name is Thomas Moore and i am originally from a small village called West Ashton which is near a town called Trowbridge. Trowbridge is in the county of Wiltshire in England. I am 20 years old and i am currently studying for a MEng in Computer Engineering at the University of Southampton. I like listening to Rock/Heavy Metal but mostly the older stuff (80's, early 90's) like Metallica and Iron Maiden. I am interested in electronics and have recently started building robots.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I believe that there must be some other form of life on another planet due to the sheer size of space. Whether this life is at our level of intelligence (or beyond it?) is anybody's guess. I think that at the moment Seti@home is the best way to look for Intelligent life until physics overcomes the vast distances between different solar systems. I think that the benefits of discovering intelligent life would far outweigh the problems of doing so.

I think that a beacon would be a good idea although to be honest with the amount of communications signals that already make their way into space the earth already makes a fairly good beacon.

I run Seti@home because i like the screensaver and i am also interested in the project. As part of my course i learn about Grid computing and Seti@home is a fine example of such a system.
