Personal background
We are now so involved with SETI, we are going to list it on our resumes as one of our sports! Jim likens it to the "big lotto in the sky." I've told him that as preposterous as the chances are at a regular lotto, he's really stretching it with this one! But it's fun! We like to check our "class" and see who else is running up their electricity bill at ridiculous rates. What I like best about it, is when I'm supposed to be working on a report and I'm playing Freecell instead, my SETI screen saver shows that I am actually working very hard even while playing cards! That makes me feel good! We have three (and sometimes four) IBM computers dedicated to SETI 24/7 so we are really working hard here! But, we want to know who those guys are that are knocking out a work unit in 5 hours! Who are those guys, anyway?

We are both reserve analysts here in the fine country town of Front Royal, Virginia, at the north end of Shenandoah Park. In addition to feeling insignificant when we see those 5-hour work units, we hike and backpack in the beautiful Blue Ridge mountains of central Virginia. But, truly, we are very pleased to have the opportunity to be involved with SETI and are very gratified to see how many other people are running up their electricity bills, too. Thanks SETI!! Say, can you wear out a processor?? Niki Mason
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1. We surely hope so. The numbers of possibilities support it. Who knows when, but I hope it's on our computers. Too many benefits and dangers to list. It's just so exciting to contemplate!

2. Yes, a beacon would be good. Possibly we should send a piece of music or a digital photo of Earth.

3. Because we're sure we'll be the ones to get the "hit." Really, we just love the idea of searching for ET life and are happy to be involved as part of the group effort. Keep up the good work (5 hours!!!!???)
