Profile: Patrick Weisser

Personal background
I'm a software developer and small business owner living in Seattle, WA. Music is a major passion of mine, especially edgy intense stuff like Pink Floyd and Depeche Mode. A personal hero of mine is Carl Sagan, and I believe he was right about us being in our technological and social adolescence as a species. The next 50 years or so will probably determine if we're going to make it or not. The more we learn and understand about ourselves -- right down to our DNA, and the more we learn about the universe and our place in it, the better our chances of surviving. That is, once we actually "grow up" and get some real perspective on existence (as opposed to the self-serving and conflict-generating brainwashing put forth by organized religions), we might just stop fighting amongst ourselves and work together to explore space. As Carl put it, "We are a way for the Cosmos to know itself."
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I believe that having proof we are not alone in the Cosmos would have a profoundly good effect on our many cultures, and I also believe such knowledge would help the human race as a whole to grow up a little.
