Profile: Mick Beitscher

Personal background
Born and raised in the Chicago area. I have always had an interest in science in general. I was president of the 7th and 8th grade science clubs, started a model rocket club, participated in high school science fairs taking second place in each year, started an extracirricular astronomy club, studied ants and hydra (the pond-life variety) on my own time, and love learning. In other words, a pretty unremarkable scientific background. I have taken some college courses, but nothing structured toward a degree of any kind. I participated in the original SetiAtHome project, but have been away from it much too long.

I am an installer/field engineer of electronic, computer, and software products in the industrial world. I have been doing this, technical support, and service department management for 40 years. I have even started and run my own mini-computer service business on two separate occasions.

I feel priviledged to contribute some of my computer time to the SETI project.

Thank you.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I run SETIatHome because of my strong interest in science. In my opinion, we cannot be alone in the universe. Trying to listen for intelligent radio transmissions, and approaching the project with an unbiased open mind, without predetermined feelings regarding the information received, is necessary to determine if intelligence 1) exists elsewhere in the universe and 2) is as curious as we are as a species. If there is a 'they', and if they are talking, we should be listening. I feel this is important work.
