Profile: Fuzzy

Personal background
My nickname since the day I was born is Fuzzy. Everyone calls me Fuzzy. If you call me by my real name, Kent, I'll think your looking for my father.

I've always been interested in the possibility (or more likely the probability) of life out there, and being a part of the SETI community is one of the ways I help find it. I check my user account everyday just to see how many units I've completed and to see how many more units I've done than anyone else. I'm not winning and contest, but I'm going to be the first to find something. ;)

I'm a Sci-Fi "geek" and I don't mind admitting it. I enjoy watching almost any Sci-Fi show on TV or at the movies.

I live in Central Florida and as such get to see the NASA space shuttle launch from here. It's most exciting at night, but just as thrilling during the day. I always hope that they bump into E.T. up there and invite him down for a brief get-together.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Ever since I watched my first episode of Star Trek I've always believed that extraterrestrial life exists. I'm not sure of when we'll find them, but they might even find us first and introduce themselves. There are probably many dangers they could arise due to such a discovery, but knowing what those dangers are will allow us to overcome those dangers.

I feel very strongly about doing whatever it takes to find other life. If that means transmitting a beacon then that's a start. What we transmit should let anyone who might be listening know that we're intelligent or at least somewhat intelligent. ;)

I run the SETI@home on two computers. I run it in the hopes of finding life. I don't know any thing about how the program works or what its looking for but I know I'm helping to look for E.T.

Some of the suggestions I have: When I "hover" my mouse of the program icon, instead of popping up "SETI@home Client Task", how about showing how many units I've completed and the progress of the current unit. This would save time of having to open the program to see this information.

I'd be interested in knowing what kind of steps are being taken to get some of the schools involved, and keeping them involved. Adults, whether in an organization or just an individual, are already involved. Children need more incentive. "User of the Day" is nice, but how about "Elementary School of the Day, Week, or Month". Downloadable "Certificates of Completion" is nice, but I don't hang these on my wall. If a child or whole class of children receive a "Thank You" message for whatever reason, they'll remember that and will be more likely to get the program downloaded on their computers at home after they leave elementary school. (Insert Whitney Houston song here... I believe that children are our future...)
