Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I accept the existence of extraterrestrial life as I do all scientific theory. My two foremost personal philosophies are "if I can imagine it, then it is possible." And, "the glass is neither half empty, nor full - it is the wrong size." These philosophies enable me to entertain the possibility that intelligent life exists beyond Earth and that that life may not be humanoid.

Transmitting in to space is hazardous in the event we notify a hostile intelligence of our presence before we can aptly defend ourselves... I cannot help but to recall the episode of the Twilight Zone, "To Serve Man."

Yet, it could also be beneficiary if we were to find a benevolent intelligence that might help us or guide us to a more peaceful and harmonious way of life... in the spirit of fiction such as Star Trek.

Finding intelligent life beyond earth will be a huge concept for humanity accept, especially challenging for the religious like myself. However, that is not reason not to search for it.

I have chosen to run SETI@Home for a the basic sensibility of using unused CPU cycles for a cause, possibly a great cause. Also, I run SETI@Home specifically, because it runs on a Macintosh and I am a science fiction fan.

I would hope that SETI@Home would develop software to run on older CPUs such as the Macintosh 68030 and 68040, and older Intel chips. Many of us computer enthusiasts have machines available and unused that could contribute to this or other CPU recycling projects.
