We must try simply because those we seek will one day do the same. If we do not, we admit that as a race we have no kinship with anyone else in the universe other than those of our own planet.
Our eyes are naturally lifted to the heavens on dark nights and we are all inexplicably drawn to its beauty and wonder. Others elsewhere in our universe surely feel the same and one day their thoughts will ask, "Are others trying to reach us?"
One day, this search will yield results. One day, other technologies will exist that allow us to more quickly send and receive this intergallactic email. Until then, we must use whatever means we have to listen...and to wait. |
