Personal background
I'm a 43-year-old electrician (IBEW Local #60), from San Antonio, Texas. I have been involved with computers as a hobby for almost 20 years, and was the owner and SysOp (SYStem OPerator) of an Electronic Bulletin Board System called ThunderBolt (before the days of "main-stream" internet access) for approximately 7 years.

I also enjoy flying (I'm sitting in a 1942 Boeing Stearman PT-17 Kaydet in my photo), and I am currently the moderator of the Flight History forum on NoticeToAirmen.com.

I collect non-sports cards, firearms, and DVDs, and am an avid reader. I am ALWAYS reading something, and I feel that you should NEVER stop learning! Knowledge is TRUE wealth.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I have always felt that we are a naive and arrogant species to think that we are completely alone in the universe. I firmly believe that there must be SOME form of life "out there". It may not be humanoid, but given the multitude of stars and planets, there HAS to be SOMETHING! I DO have trouble believing that we have been "visited". Given the enormous distances between stars and planets, I feel that the time constraints are just too great. Factor in the civilization and technological timeline, not to mention the vast number of stars and planets, and I feel that the chances of a visitation are rather remote.
I run SETI@Home for a number of reasons. First, it gives my computer something USEFUL to do. Second, there would be NO WAY for any single institution to afford the equipment to process this amount of data. By running SETI@Home, I feel that I am helping to further scientific research, no matter WHAT the outcome of this experiment. And third, I like knowing that I am doing some small part to help answer the age old question: "Is there anybody out there?"
