I am a 32 year old student working on my electronical engineering degree. I reside in a remote rural section of Illinois outside of the Quad Cities. I work for a major agricultural manufacturing company as an electronics tech where I assemble and test the controls for planters tractors and combines. My hobbies consist of anything not green, working on my computers, spending time with my family, and playing and coaching hockey. I have a wonderful wife of 8 years named Shelley and three sons; Dustin 8, Dakota 6, and Trevor 3.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1) Yes I do believe in extraterrestrial life. I have heard all the arguments as far as from church leaders to just moronic boobs. Don't get me wrong I do believe in God who created the heavens and the earth but isn't it a little vain and egotistical to believe that we are the only ones who he created. He stated he created the heavens earth moon and stars. Thus if he created the stars and all this it only makes sence he made not only us but those out there. As for how and when thats a tough question... I do believe we have already been discovered and there are those that hide this fact but as for us finding others out there and communicating back and forth ...... I believe that only after we have evolved far enogh that they no longer have to fear us as a blood thirsty conquering race they will welcome us with open arms.... the benifits would be huge from medical cure to advanced propultion and engineering. It would also open large opportunities economically in trade. The only downfall would be that as soon as they opened the doors to us there enemies would be our enemies..... and as I see it at this point we have no enemies other then what exist on this planet.
2) Yes I do feel we should send out a beacon to let people know we are here. But also letting them know that there are still idiots on this planet that are ignorant and blood thirsty and have no true desire to do anything but reak havok on everyone else. That we are still seperate races segrigated and have truelly not excepted the fact that there is only one race that is important and that is that we are all human. And that the human race is more significant than that of a color or gender race.
3)I run SETI@Home for the simple fact that it is a cause I believe in and that I would like to be involved in something that is bigger than all of us. Not to mention I would love to be part of this when we do discover intelligent life out there.
