Personal background |
Greetings! I have been part of SETI@Home since it began way back when. I am a systems administrator for a large electrical wholesale distributor in Oregon. There have been many changes in my life since SETI@Home began but SETI@Home has always been there. It is one constant in an ever changing universe.

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
I have been interested in SETI since I was a youngster some three decades ago or so. I remember very clearly watching Neal Armstrong put the first footprint on the Moon when I was five. Since that point, when I realized there was an entire galaxy out there that could be explored, I have wondered if others were already doing so. Later I became even more curious as I listened to Carl Sagan and his billions upon billions upon billions of stars monologue. In the past several years, as I look at the stars through my 10" Meade LX200, my curiosity has intensified to the point of an imperative. What a huge joke it would be if mankind were truly alone in the universe. I don't think that God (or whatsoever you believe in) would be so cruel a jester. I also don't believe that mankind is so privileged that we should be the only thing created "in God's image." I feel it far more likely the universe in all its spectacular and wonderful glory is "God's image" and that man was only a small part of the whole.
It makes me very proud to be a part of this undertaking. The fact that Seti@Home is the first public distributed-computing project ever is just icing on the cake for this computer geek. To everyone out there doing their part (no matter how large or small) I salute you: you are truly people of vision! |
