Profile: Kyknos

Personal background
I live in Prague, Czech republic, born in 1976. I am interested in general computer hacking, computer graphics (classical techniques too) [search for my name at Elfwood], astronomy, fantasy and science fiction, nature and swans. I am a webmaster of a site dedicated to swans [kyknopaedia.kyknos.org] and I collect swan myth and tales from around the world (write me if you know one!). And there is many more things... find more in my domain, kyknos.org )))

Oh do not laugh at mine low WU numbers, please. Although I am a member for much longer, I have started serious processing in the January 2k3, I have lacked affordable Internet connection before. And my machine is constantly raytracing, compiling or doing other processor intensive long tasks, so, even if it runs 24 hours a day, it simply has little time to spare.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1. If there is God, only he knows. But I do not believe in existence of God more than in honest motives of recent USA wars. If there is no God - no creation - and life has evolved by its own means, it is simply impossible it happened only once, on only one place. I also thing (looking at all the extremophiles living on our planet in very very strange places) that biozone, or places where life is possible, is much larger than we can even imagine. DNA/protein is IMHO not the only alternative... I bet (50%) we will find life in the Solar system before 2050 - possibly on Mars, Europa, gas giants...
And DANGERS? They are huge. When I look into our own history Ï have to admit every encounter of civilizations has been disaster for a weaker one. It is a great warning. Hope the stronger one (and there is little chance we will be equal) will be wiser than humanking in its history... (And it is, sadly, the only good thing about our wars and weapons of mass destruction - it may teach us to survive such an encounter ((((()

2. We SHOULD. But it shall be considered very BRAVE action. It should be message of friendship and cooperation. See #1 for my reasons.

3. Because i simply have computing resources to share and SETI@home is a computing project I consider very very interesting. It is one of the best uses we've ever found for the Internet.
