Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I do think life exists on other planets in the universe, with many having civilizations far more advanced than ours. I think it is important to try to make first contact with other interstellar civilizations to minimize the risk of hostile engagements. An alien race that MAKES first contact with us is much more likely to already know a great deal about us and our planet than a race that we find and contact. If we make contact, there is a chance for peace and exchange of ideas. If we wait to be contacted, however, we stand in a position to be invaded and our lives, resources, and, most importantly, our planet taken away from us.
