Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
BOINC and SETI are great. Imagine what can be done by some weak old PC ,even if they run Windoze :-), if they are just enough. My guess is, that in future we will need the knowhow to use them like that (without Windoze, of course). Who can afford a Supercluster? Who would be able to find out how the Greenhouse-Effect changes our wheater, if a Supercomputer would be the only way to do so?
Some projects may be junk (3 projects for proteins?), in future there will be even more junk. But no doubt, one or some among them will come in handy. And by the way we find E.T., it may happen today! So lets get back to work...
