Personal background
I am, according to my ex, a geek extrordinaire. I have a great love of science, and more than a passing interest in astronomy, although my formal training is in medical science and medical microbiology. What better use for spare computing time than Seti@home, especially in light of the fact that I leave my system running 24 hours a day unless I'll be out of town for an extended period.:)
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Given the size of the universe, I think it is not only likely, but very probable that there is other sentient life out there somewhere. It may be far away, but statistically, the odds are in favour of its existence somewhere. I am sure it will be unimaginally different than any life we are familiar with, and its technology also vastly different than ours. Mathematics being a universal language however, we should have some basis of communication should we ever stumble across any interstellar messages.

The SETI project is a very logical way of searching for these life-forms, although it is limited in terms of resources. I am more than happy to contribute my little part and only wish there were more ways in which I could help.
