Profile: Munchkinmom

Personal background
I am 42 yrs old, employed as a nurse in Hampton, VA, mother of 4, grandmother of 3, jack of all trades...master of none. My hobby seems to be life, itself. I prefer long walks in my head and am a sponge for knowledge. Any knowledge, I am hardly particular. Am a firm believer in the 'what goes around, comes around' philosophy and, am not entirely unconvinced that humans aren't just a pawn in a very large chess game being played on a mind-boggling gameboard. SETI has always fascinated me, but then, so has gravity. I rejoice (daily) that I live in a part of our world that not only 'allows' me to own a computer, but to use it as I see fit while fully realizing that 'Big Brother' is watching. I just don't think we've come to terms with the ideology that a bigger brother watches them. And, he probably has relatives.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Pretty conceited of us to believe that 'We' are the first lifeforms to ever exist; therefore, it must be so. Kind of like religion, no one has actually 'seen' God (without the help of powerful hallucinogenics), but many believe He is there. Maybe it just boils down to the human desire to discover that life has purpose.
Danger may be a factor; however, danger is prevalent in everyday life even with nary an alien to be found. I would expound that the benefits far outweigh the risks having nothing else with which to form an unbiased opinion.
I would also have to say that sending out 'friendly' signals makes a great deal of sense in the respect that NOT sending one makes us look like either global idiots or a planet-full of ostriches.
I put SETI@home on my computer for a variety of reasons; paramount being that I really have nothing better to do with my time. I put my profile on here because (evidently) I need every one else to know that I have nothing better to do with my time. And, I truly believe that the government should be footing the tab on this one. The 'cover-up' has endured for far too long and the public should have access to pertinent information without endangering our defensive forces. 'Nuff said.
