Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I run seti at home in the hopes of being part of finding something intelligent out there besides us. I am not so arrogant to beleive that we are the only intelligence in the universe.
My views on the project are that the chance of actually finding a signal cohesive enough after thousands(millions) of years is very remote, but I can still hope.
My suggestion is to find a way to account for the fact that photons leaving a source are traveling at slightly different rates. two photons that leave a source at the same exact moment that travel for millions of years could arrive seconds, minutes, or even days apart.
SETI@home and Astropulse are funded by grants from the National Science Foundation, NASA, and donations from SETI@home volunteers. AstroPulse is funded in part by the NSF through grant AST-0307956.
