Profile: Glenn

Personal background
Greetings mortals!
My name's Glenn, I'm currently 45 years old and unemployed! I've been working in Customer Technical Services for a while, but have done jobs as diverse as Youth Worker and Harley Davidson Sales Executive! Cool huh?
My hobbies include astronomy, motorcycles (particularly the HD type) and cooking.
I have a 13 yr-old Jack Russell dog called Mac who likes to ride on my trike where ever possible.
Life is currently made sweeter by my partner, Linda and her 8 yr-old daughter, Laura. I have a 20 yr-old daughter of my own, Yvonne and an 18 yr-old son, Simon (I know, I don't look old enough to have kids that age.............. certainly don't act it).
My motto in life is "Growing old is inevitable. Growing up is optional".
Oh, and "Shit happens!".
I live in the UK in a place called Kettering, which is famous for it's long dead boot and shoe industry and the fact that Gazza was manager of it's mediocre football team for 39 days before being sacked for being drunk all the time! I've long held a suspicion that it is also the birthplace of "the chav". Other than that, Kettering has very little going for it apart from the fact that the road system here abouts is quite good, so you can get away easily.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I run SETI@home, and have done for a long time, because I'd like to think that, when we eventually do make contact with extra-terrestrials, I played my part in it. I'm not much of a diplomat (will quite happily call a spade a spade) and don't think I'll ever manage a first-contact team, but I can dream!
I think this project, and others like it, are crucial to crunching the numbers in these type of data-gathering excercise. It seems stupid to me to have my PC sitting here just waiting for email to come in & not having it do 'proper work'. It's a computer, not a toy!
Not sure that, as of yet, I approve of the new-style BOINC format. Seems to be riddled with more faults & bugs that MicroDork ever did. Perhaps they've used some of their old programmers?
