Personal background
I work in a printshop, when I;m not on the clock I spend most of my time with my 2 kids, dylan and katie. When they go to bed or are ignoring me, I like to read, listen to music, play music, watch movies; big deal right. I like astronomy, I have a small 114gt celestron, its ok. I want to upgrade to something larger. I live in virginia so the light polution sucks, or its raining or plain coudy, so when I'm not outside with a sore neck, I'm inside playing chess. Gameknot.com or pogo.com, I've become a chess junkie actually, I play all the time, while persuing my other intrests. I suck but it is a great game.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I beleive there is life out their, but I beleive we will never have contact. Seti will find it. We will most likely send a return signal. Humans will most likely expire before we could form any real contact. We will play radio signal tag, but never be able to make a meeting. To many politicians are keeping us on this planet, and we won't have the space travel capabilities. It is possible the alien life forms do, but unless they have some bad ass warp drives, or control a wormhole they won't bother. Seti should not stop the project, we need to know we have to know. The optimistic aproach must be taken. Look for a signal, make a contact and strive to reach out in the universe. We must expand into our solar system, our galaxy and if possible, other galaxies. If not, our time is limited on mother earth, she will take us out and replace us with the next big thing, no doubt in that.
