I think that with this number of stars, and planets (much of them maybe more habitable than Earth) it would be unwise to think that life and intelligence doesn't exist anywhere else.
...And yes, communication is a basis not only of the modern world, but it is, in any form, needed by human beans; to share their knowledge, their feelings, or just to know they're not alone.
It feels nice to be some even very small part of it, of searching for our intelligent neighbours.
What kind of information should we send them? Maybe just invite them for a tea :)
