Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
why i run seti@home ?
first because i think it´s worth to participate on something special.
personally i think, it makes more sense than playing " space invaders "

when i started seti@home classic, there where 3 questions about the reason why i do participate...
i use the " copy-paste "- function because i´m too lazy to write it again

A.. yes there is ETL.
when we discover other lifeforms or species.? i guess , when we are ready for it..or when " they want to be discovered ".
possible dangers:
a) for them.. we are barbarians, paranoid, definitly NOT wise.
b) for us..some visit from the " bad guys ".
possible benefits..? learning!! we can just learn.

B.. no.. because we send informations since we are able to send radiosignals. every species who did a " flyby " knows who and where we are..

C.. i´m just curious to find out IF we find someone, if someone would answer..

my views about the project...?

looking for E.T.L makes sense - while we explore the near region in our solar system, we need some goals..something that gives us a reason to NOT giving up..
the possibility to find a signal, that cames from " outerspace " gives us the real push to do something useful for the following generations.
besides that, we develope new technologies, medical products and more...

unfortunately the human race spends more money in arms and weapons than in research and knowledge..
a clear signal " from outside " would change that ( i hope )

Suggestions..

Ahem... just one..

I want my old Seti screen back .. also the Screensaver..
Would the Boincteam find a Way to handle this ...
