Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I've ran SETI@home since 1999 off and on on a multitude of different computers. I don't subscribe to searching for signals based on the hydrogen atom though. The idea of looking for a signal sent specifically for first contact is remote. I feel the search would be more productive if we focused on searching for broadcast transmissions much like our signals we sent out during the 20th century.

Limiting such signal searches to stars within our level of technologies detection range would give us a focus rather than the daunting task of scanning the entire sky with limited receivers.

As other possible civilizations advance, they would move away from broadcast type communications such as we have. The predominant emerging media satellite communications and low power wireless devices. That leaves a 50 to a 100 year window for a civilization to transcend this medium.

On the day we tune into a distance civilizations television show; it will be interesting to see how scientists/linguists extrapolate a "Rosetta's stone" in order to translate and decode the actions of an alien language that has no commonalities between the us and them (or will it?)
