Why do you run SETI@home?
Interested in disproving the presence of intelligent beeings actually transmitting signals. Estimate significant conclusion in about 500 years time.
The project is probably not worthwhile as it is for the scientific result, but more for demonstrating the practicality of distributed computing.
But you never know....

aThoughts about ETI
There are certainly ET's out there, but they will never be heard from using similar technology as we have today. Extraterrestrial politicians will certainly balk at the cost of such a project.
The same reason will prevent ourselves from transmitting with sufficient power.
The only way will be if someone discover a cheaper method, and then it will not be the government, but some private organization.a
