I am an 18 years old Italian Computer Science Student, currently attending at the 5th year of ITIS (Institute for Industry Technic, like an High School focused on Computer Programming and Software Planning). In fact now I write softwares for a famous Italian Macintosh Shareware Software House (www.apimac.com); and yes, this is my first hobby: programming along with web-programming, others are music (especially Rock and Blues) and Cinema&TV (Disney and Sci-Fi).
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I think extraterrestrial life exists, and I believe they're looking at us;human history is full of weird and unexplainable things: Maya and Egyptians used all pyramids, in the Easter Island there are big stones that resemble aliens... Why should we believe there aren't other thinking civilizations in the infinite outer space?
The SETI group try to find out if this is all true, and so, why don't help them?
I just read the future directions of the project; I just can't wait to run the first beta of the BOINC client to be more helpful with your and other projects.
I started using SETI@home with my first computer, an Apple Macintosh Performa with 180 Mhz PowerPC processor and System 8.6; now I own a double processor Apple Power Macintosh G4 450 Mhz with Mac OS X and an Apple iBook 700 Mhz, and doing a workunit passed from 245 hours to just 10, eheh, why waste all this power with useless normal screensavers?
