Personal background |
I am a 4th year chemical engineering major at UC Berkeley. I'm really interested in alternative energy sources such as hydrogen and ethanol. I'm currently designing a residential size hydrogen generator that converts natural gas and water into hydrogen for a fuel cell. I also do research in a lab that studies the optimization of industrial catalysts, thereby making industrial chemical plants more cost and energy efficient and less polluting. |
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
I've been running Seti@home since the beginning.
I had the chance to help with the construction of the FightAIDS@home project when I had just graduated from high school, and my eyes were opened to the power of distributed computing. So I've been at the other side of the table too and I know how tough the Seti@home guys have it, but I also know how great it feels to see results of a massive experiment comeback in a few days.
I run Seti@home because I think it is a great proof-of-concept for how distributed computing can change the world.
While I acknowledge that the chances of detecting an alien civilization are remote, that is no reason not to try. I believe that there are other civilizations and we will eventually make contact with them (whether we find them, or they find us).
