Profile: Camp Sciences-Espace

Personal background
Created by 2 teachers who got tired of creating workers instead of balanced, motivated human beings and involved citizens, Sciences-Espace is a charity organization which presents a summer day amp program on Aerospace, applied sciences and aviation, to boys and girls between the ages of 8 and 16.

We also present in-class hands-on science workshops to elementary schools in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

As the last of the grant program aimed at education, sciences, non-profit org. and student employment finally dissappeared in may 2005, we face an uncertain future.

The summer of 2005 comes to a close, and no matter how much time is still ahead of us, we are proud to have:
• reached over 25 000 elementary students through our outreach pgms,
• made SETI known to over 1 200 confirmed famillies
• celebrated the 1 150 young scientist who has made his first flight with us,
• realized 138 micro-gravity experiments with our 13-16 yrs old pilots
• Created over 250 hands-on hard-core science activities. For exemple, after 60 minutes of basic principles, system design and problem solving on hydraulic systems, our teams of 8-12 years old were sitting at the commands of a bachot, digging a hole in the ground and learning from experienced technicians.

We only learn, once and for all, the things that we have discovered ourselves.

It is a well known fact that it takes a whole village to educate a kid. However, the ''global village'' that we are now facing doesn't cut it.

Good luck to all the educators who still have the sacred fire and who have found ways to truly teach and live happily in spite of the system.

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
01
We run SETI as a way to teach kids that there is never a single solution to any problem, that the absence of proof is not a proof of absence, and that if, as a society, we continue to follow brainless honorless leaders a bit of help from outside the Milky Way could probably one of the few way out before we marsianize our floating blue marble. ;-))

If the body is bound by the rules of the 3's ( 3 min without air, 3 days without water and 3 weeks without food ) it would appear that the spirit follows the same criteria: 3 terms without hope. Let's hope, let's work together

I would like to suggest a more dynamic screen saver with maybe incredible shots of the universe that UB may have privileged access to. The current system has left a
few permanent purple ghosts on some of our older screens.
