Profile: Ulrich Manske

Personal background
Hi, my name is Ulrich.

I'm 58 years old, lived for a long time nearby Munich in Germany and have been working in differrent jobs in a big company: e. g. as a software engineer, application developer, consultant, IT-auditor. Now I live in Witten in the middle-western region of Germany.

In my youth I read a lot of science fiction stories. This might be one reason, that I started really early in manufacturing and programming mini- or micro-computers. I had many friends, who helped me on my way (to name only a few of them: Beate S., Robert F., Detlef F., Uwe P., Berthold H., Fritz D., Hansjoerg N., Professor W.@rub).
I've experience with apple, trs80, zx81, olivetti m20, txt580/5.580, mx-series (mx2, mx300/500) of SNI, pc1512/1640 and the operating systems (some of them really are OS ... ;-) UNIX, Linux, BS2000, CP/M, PCOS, C-CP/M86, MS-DOS and variants of those.
In the meantime I became a convinced Apple-User: iMac, iPad and iPhone are my "home-standards", because it is really easier to do the things I like to do instead of beeing permanently enforced repairing Operating Systems which are quite buggy...

So, if you like to write me or to get some more information, don't hesitate to write me: uli@ulimanske.de
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I think, that there might exist other "worlds" - in which spectrum of our small bandwith of perception they might ever exist... If we meet another species, we need first of all a lot of luck, because in most cases many of us are not able to have intercultural contacts without conflicts - imagine,
what happens if we meet other species unprepared as we normally are (= aggressive, based on our wrong interpretation of their behaviour): Indeed, We need LUCK!

On the other hand I like to point out, that other species won't solve our problems in the world - this is our task! Therefore let's try to do it better day by day to minimize the suprise of the SETIs, if they find out that we are obviously NOT the TERIs (TERristrial Intelligencies).

If you want to ameliorate the situation in the world, don't point to others - start with the small steps in your own environment and life: I keep on trying it myself ...
