Profile: Richard H. Weil

Personal background
Born in New York City in 1950. Now live in a condo townhouse in St. Paul, Minnesota. Since 1975 happily married to Lindsay Nauen, accountant; we have two sons. Hold a Ph.D. in geography and teach that, statistics, and earth science at a small college. Also enjoy flying gliders and do a lot of amateur radio. Finally, enjoy traveling--backpacked around the world in '73 (France to India, across the Pacific and through all of Latin America). Lindsay and I now take shorter trips, such as to Jamaica, the Hebrides, Rhodes, Tunisia, and Alaska. I sure hope that SETI finds intelligent life in the Universe. Lately there's been no sign of it in Washington!
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
An excellent idea to use idle resources. It sure can't hurt and if we are lucky enough to find anybody it might actually make the human race grow up a bit. The best thing the project can do is to advertise...the more people involved the better the chances of success, and the more support there will be for other scientific research.
