Personal background

My name is Punjab Cisco. I have been on the internet since June of 95 and participating in SetiAtHome since 7/11/01. Current Rate per Week is around 325 from 100 linux, 15 windows, and 1 sun sparc running solaris. I am trying to convince my buddy Joe to donate his XBox to the cause. Not all 100 of the linux boxes are online yet as I am trying to convince friends with cable modems to run them out of their house - I am pretty much tapped out on power in my house. Most of the linux boxes are built into Mosix clusters to keep administration easy. Due to power constraints, the mosix clusters are physically distributed across several power grids with the average cluster size at 20 computers, and the largest at 40. Approximately 10% of the computers (notably the Sun Sparc running Solaris) are on UPS systems, although goals for 2003 are to get 25% on power backup systems. Cabletron, Nortel, Cisco, and Linksys make up most of the network backbone. The fastest PC, my work PC, is a 2.6 ghz capable of doing a unit in 3 hours 20 minutes.

I am a software developer living in Missouri. My hobbies include home theater improvement, pc technology (in many flavors), robotics, camping, and four-wheeling & dirt biking.

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home

I run seti@home because I like the idea of using distributed computing to problem solve and because of the class registrations - I want to be first place in my class. Classmates beware :)

I like the idea of looking for ET and support the reasons behind it, but I am more excited about setiathome's next set of projects. I like the idea of finding black holes and other spatial phenomenon better as I think there is a higher likelihood of regular discovery.
