Personal background
Hi everbody,

I came to be in 1973, born in Poland, lived all my life in The Netherlands.
I'm a taxidriver just helping out to finally prove that there is more live than on our blue marble alone. I have my own telescope it's an Orion 4,5" newtonian and whenever I can I'm outside enjoying the universe above us. Next to stargazing I have a few other hobbies which include mountaineering rollerblading and modding my PC. I've always said that I've been born a thousand years too early because the chance that I'll go into space would be much greater than it will ever be now. But hey you can't have everything in life so enjoy and live, you only get one go at it.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Why I run SETI ? For the fun of it and because I can, my PC runs 24/7 so why not use it for some usefull goal. And to be honest the competitive aspect also has it charms.

It's nice to see that a project like this can bring people together from all over the world and with the recent developments in the BOINC project it is getting more mature and quite fullfilling so much research done by so many people, it's just great to see that happen.

These are the old answers to the questions asked before BOINC started, don't ask me about the questions because I wouldn't know them anymore. But I guess they were obvious.

"1. Definitly yes, first off all it would be an egoistic view to say that we are the only ones. The Universe is so vast that it exceeds our wildest imaginations and when you look at the rate the scientist are discovering new extra-solar planets and the rate at which new science techniques are developing, it's just a matter of time that we will find proof of extraterrestrial life.

To answer the second part of the question , in my humble opinion it would be better for us not to be noticed by others just for the simple reason we are not ready to cope with it. Imagine only the reprecussions it would have on our earthly religions. But there would be more, masshysteria, missuse of information, coverups, just out of pure ignorance and fear. I could be wrong but this IS my opinion of what the human race stands for at this moment in it's evolution. But in case I'm wrong and on a more positive note we could excell in our lives knowing that we have faraway neighbours. It could turn us all to unity and perhaps understanding among us, so I would say it's very difficult to predict what would happen in case of discovering our alien counterparts.

2. Definitly NOT. I once read a book in which the same question was asked and I completly agree with the outcome of this subject. As we look into our own history of violence and bloodshed it always came to the same matter, the weak were defeated by the strong. So what would stop a more advanced civilization of surpressing or even eradicating our human race just out of the mere knowledge that they would be sure that we would not and could not become a threat for them. So I would be content of knowing that there is extraterrestial life and very pleased that they rather don't know of our exsistence.

3. From when I was a small boy I already looked up into the sky and was amazed by it's beauty. This feeling didn't die out it just became stronger. My dream was to become an astronomer but life had other things for me arranged. So here I am now, driving my own spaceship on the road and to boldly go where a lot of others have gone before me."
