Personal background
Hi SETIzens,
This is Shantanu Eksambekar, from Mumbai, India. I am 37 years old and an environmental specalist in a power company. We are into establishing mega power projects in the Country. I am the incharge of my department as Additional Manager. My job involves conducting the Environmental Impact Assessments and other surveys pertaining to aquatic studies, vegetation mapping etc.

I have exceptional hobbies and to enumerate a few, I am an Amateur Astronomer. I cultivated this hobby since my childhood, and started off on my own by studying the sky atlas. As the seasons changed my acquaintance with the sky grew up too. Now I am a proud owner of two power telescopes (3inch newtonian reflector) and a 4 inch refractor.

Besides astronomy, my other exclusive interests are radio dxing, I just love to spend my leasure time listening to shortwave radio, I am a vivid collector of Radios too. and to add to my collection i am now a proud owner of World Space satellite radio.

I am a computer wizard and a serious web surfer. I love making new friends and maintain that friendship. I am good at art and love books as well. I am fond of Sci -fi too.

History and archaeology are the two subjects that fascinate me too. Being an environmental scientist I am interested in paleo environment. Infact I intend to do my PhD on this subject.

The latest craze that has cought on to me is an interesting book called Mellineal Project. That talks about futurology and how would mankind settle on extra terrestrial planets. But before we take that big leap I feel mankind should first try to keep this planet as neat as possible, because as of today this is the only living planet that we know.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I do believe in extraterrestrial life. But looking into the vaste expance of our universe, its just mere chance that we should come across one of these extra terrestrials. If they are technologically advanced then the chances are that this SETI project is sure to pick up some signals. But i have a feeling that since new extra solar planets are being discovered. The spectral analysis would definately give us some clues about existance of extra terrestrials.
I dont see any dangers if we bump across any such discovery, but yes this would be the greatest discovery for the mankind, because this would make him realise that he is not alone. We should definately cease the opportunity to beacon them and to let them know who we are. Depending on their location and distance, we could beacon a video signal to them through a relay of powerful satellites.
I have an idea, just like we have the great Hubble space telescope hovering around our planet. I suggest that we should have a much more powerful telescope that is orbiting beyond pluto with advanced telecommunication and other probes. And that could act as a relay centre for our planet.
I had completed 160 units upto about 3months ago. But my software got currupt and i lost my entire listing on this site. therefore i logged in as a new user once again. i am still very positive about this project. and some day we will definately stumble across some message.
