Personal background
I'm a computer programmer for the Naval Surface Warfare Center Detachment Bremerton in the state of Washington. I'm 27 years old and I take pride in having the SETI@Home screen saver on my computer. I take every opportunity to tell people about the project and how they can join. When I'm not working, I still do quite a bit with computers from personal projects to just chatting on-line.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I think extraterrestrial life exists, however, I have doubts that we will actually find life on another planet or be contacted by another species. However, I do believe that we should continue to try to find other life. If we do not, we will most certainly not find it!

I think we should try to send signals to various stars. I believe there will be more efficient ways of sending signals discovered, but for now, we should use any means available to us. The information we send should contain some detailed descriptions about humans and life on planet Earth including a starchart that shows where our planet is.

I run SETI@home because I believe there are tremendous discoveries to be made by this project, and not necessarily just life on other planets. Despite the criticism, I believe that space exploration has the possibility of improving life for everyone here, both rich and poor alike. Therefore it is in our best interest to continue funding these sorts of projects.
