I'm 23. Born in Hastings, NE. Graduated from Des Moines East High School in Des Moines, IA. I am currently in the Navy, assigned to the USS Annapolis (fast attack, nuclear powered submarine) as a nuclear reactor operator. It's got its perks, and its pits, but all in all, I have a good time.
I joined for money for college, haven't seen any college material yet (after 4 years), and intend to study theatrical lighting. May not pay much, but I guarantee it's a blast...especially if you've got pyros involved!
I'm gearing up to leave on a naval deployment. As such, I haven't touched my computers in a while. Instead, I'm enjoying the social aspects of life. The way I see it, I'm gonna have at least 6 months of time to play with my computer games.
I'm not around all the time, I've got a decent processer that doesn't even get used when I'm using it, I've got DSL, so why not use it all? I currently have Seti@home running on my desktop, gaming server, and laptop. I use SetiQue to ease management. I also plan on using SetiQue on my laptop so I can process work units while I'm underway.

There has to be something else out there, lots of 'em. I just hope that when we do discover them, we're ready as a society to recieve that discovery. If we're not, it could either bring us up to that readiness, or destroy us utterly.
We already are transmitting a beacon for others. Years of radio and TV broadcasts are out there, waiting to be recieved. Unfortunately, those weren't designed as interplanetary comunication, and if they are recieved, very unlikely, and interpreted as designed...ie, visual and audio... we may have already sent the wrong message. Chances are though, that our broadcasts could be recieved as nothing but noise. We're making the assumption that they are watching and listening to the same things we are.
