My hobbies include Scuba Diving, reading, music, cars, computers and anything to do with science and technology. Favourite books include the Dune series, Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit. My music tastes include Led Zep, Hendrix, The Who, Cream, Yes and other similar bands. Also much to the surprise of a lot of people I like Trance music and Enigma.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I am POSITIVE that life exists elsewhere in our own galaxy and that in the universe as a whole I am sure life, in maybe thousands of different forms is going on just as we do.
I think some films such as "Contact" explain my feelings very well.
I think we will discover it by using something like SETI or we will be "contacted" in some way.
The culture shock would be huge but even more profound to all our various religions!!!
We have been transmitting for the last hundred plus years since radio and then TV, etc started. But I think a dedicated transmitter, based (for instance) on the Moon sending out "burst" transmissions that maybe include a star map and DNA details could be possible.
SETI is a fantastic and worthwhile project which should be given greater support worldwide. I do what I can because I believe in what it is trying to achieve.
