Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
seti@home should run as long as there is funding and people willing to participate. there are "side benefits" to the research such as: pulsar research, black-hole research, and things we do not imagine today .. in regard to seti, the allen array is of particular importance .. i believe it will be a long time before we contact an extra-terrestrial civilization, but we will learn a lot in trying and mature, as a civilization, and be worthy of such contact. the motivation is important as well as the expression of that motivation. a mature and sophisticated approach is required. at the same time, we must not squelch the enthusiasm of youth; we must encourage it. a way to participate and inspire with wide scope and applicability is seti@home.
