Personal background
"When she looked to the stars, she could feel the immensity of the Universe pressing in on her, the absolute power that made her own abilities seem so obscure and meaningless.... No! She would not vanish without having made her own mark on this world. That was her duty."
-From my own work-in-progress, Shiliki: the Journey

Hello! Thanks for checking out my profile, although I'm not sure I have much to say here. I'm a college student, working on a Computer Science degree, although my first passions lie in the theater and writing (but those don't always pay so well, so I'm working on my backup plan). I'm also a musician (I play seven different instruments and sing) and have a certain passion for the Fantasy genre...probably the reason I love folk music; there's a quality there that one could picture in a Fantasy world.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Existance of other life in the Universe? More than likely, I would say. With so many infinite possibilities in galaxies across the Universe, it seems statistically possible. Of course, being a fan of sci-fi, I'd love to meet some species from another world, but this isn't Star Trek. The chances of them being even human-like is small, to say the least, but it would be fascinating to study their cultures and technologies.

Unfortunately, I think it's probably not in their first interests to search us out. Even if there are societies somewhere "out there" that are capable of long-distance space travel, I doubt they'd show a lot of specific interest in us, unless they manage to stumble across our little blue planet hap-hazardly, probably the same way we'll stumble across them.

Basically, I remain optomistic, but the challenges of meeting an alien culture is probably bigger than even Science Fiction has considered.
