Personal background
I'm 22 years old, and married. I live in Utah, where I make a living as a programmer for a small company that sells their products online. I love reading scifi and fantasy, and I play a lot of RPGs online. I've been involved with computers since I was in the 5th grade, and when I was in 6th grade, I taught myself to program in Pascal. I now program in 4 or 5 languages fluently, and I'm always working on learning more.

I'm also a fan of Anime, and my favorite show is Rurouni Kenshin. I also like Fushigi Yuugi, Outlaw Star, Gundam Wing, and others.

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I firmly believe that there is life out there in the universe. To quote the movie Contact, if there wasn't, it would be an awful waste of space. I don't know if or when we'll ever discover it, but I'd like to think that we will. If we do discover life, and are careful, we can learn a great deal from the contact, and improve ourselves, and hopefully them.

We should definately transmit a beacon. I don't know what kind of information to include, since the odds of it being understood are slim. Perhaps it should simply contain information to make it obvious that it /is/ a signal. Like, PI in binary, or maybe a Fibonacci sequence.

I run SETI@home becuase I would love to be the one to help us discover intelligent life in the universe. I think the project is fabulous, and I love having it on my computer. Something I would like to see is a 'scoreboard' for each user, showing the best Guassian, Spike, and Triplet matches they've found.
