Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I believe that the universe is much larger than anyone can imagine.
With that thought in mind, it seems rather arrogant to assume life on Earth
is the only of its kind. I believe that at some point science, technology,
and culture will combine to form a public resource available to everyone; not
just the elite. When that happens, I believe society will have evolved to a
point where others (who may be scanning the heavens as well) will feel we can
be approached. While we are becoming aware that we are part of a global
community, we may not yet realize that the community is larger still. I am a
participant in SETI@home because I want to help find out what that community
is. I think that the work is noble and am more than glad to assist.
