Personal background |
I've been a professional hacker for 30 years; no, I don't crack Hotmail accounts or produce virus code. I write custom software for small businesses. I started coding in the Iron Age - assembly language on a 60-bit CDC machine using cards. Currently I'm working on a PDA-based client/server application.

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
I believe that this project represents science at its best. Little else can so radically change the perspectives of the average person. A discovery would be significant beyond words, but the effort itself illuminates the human condition in a uniting and positive way.
I feel almost a duty to run SETI@home. Its negligent cost and (possible) immeasurable impact on society, make it a moral imperative.
Purely for fun, I would like to see a list of the names various members would choose for another intelligence. These would be picked randomly, displayed on the home page, and cycled often, possibly even on each reload of the page. "Sagans" perhaps? |
