Profile: raitala

Personal background
Age: 73, married 2 grown daughters.

Occupation: RETIRED as of April 31 2007, previously, I was a Senior Programmer doing Oracle Database / Web Development, started in the programming profession in 1970.

HOBBIES: Golf, rifle and pistol shooting target shooting, repairing / restoring old things, gardening, fast cars (but not fast women), physical training and walking, feeding the wild animals (non human) that hang out at my house, and riding my Kawasaki Vulcan 900. Lately, I've become involved with the Morristown VFW post 5266 Riders which are fellow foreign war veterans that ride motor cycles and do charity work to help our my fellow veterans and other less fortunate people in East Tennessee.

FUTURE and NOW: I'm at the age where I'm enjoying retirement and trying to making it threw life in one piece with at least something left over (physically and mentally) for an active and fun retirement. I've moved to Eastern Tennessee to get away from the expensive Maryland area and a more "normal" life style. I figured out that the stock markets were going to be down in 2008 and got out of most of my mutual funds and stock investments so I didn't get killed. But I will never understand why the so called financial wizards didn't know this. Or did they know and only inform their high dollar clients????

HOW TIMES CHANGE: When I had just graduated from high school, One of My favorite pastimes was drag racing in front of the just being built Goddard Space Flight Center, the guards would cheer us on and the police would try to catch us.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I believe Contact has already been made... I played Koolau Golf course in Hawaii (9/10/01) and they were running around everywhere. Making my ball go in the wrong direction, throwing it into the Jungle, dropping it into water hazards, and generally causing me to shoot my worst score of the year. In fact, I believe they followed back to Maryland and managed to make me shoot several other less that stellar scores since then. I know it couldn't have been me ;-)

I think we will eventually "discover" intelligent life in another solar system. But it is highly unlikely that I will be alive to see it :-(
