Personal background
Age ? Occupation? Well older than I want to be and not as occupied as I want to be. An ex-CTO thanks to the fantastic business environment and now a consultant in Asia.

Run SETI on all my systems as it is better than letting them sit there. Wish there was some medical research I could use then for, tried the Folding@Home but the software just did not work reliably (oops, developed by . . .). The SETI guys did a great job with this application and I am happy to be part of it.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Is there a possibility of extraterrestrial life? I believe the odds in in favor that there is something out there. Are we meant to find it? Don't know about that. Are we meant to look for them? Well we have a curious nature about ourself so I believe so. If we were meant to be apart, then we probably would not have figured out how to look. So I guess we should go ahead.

Is this a priority over issues here at home on Earth, I guess not. If the guys at SETI wanted to share their experiences at managing such projects with those guys doing medical research, I probably would make the move over to that research instead.

Having said this, SETI is part of that motivational research that keeps us all alive with hope. Keep at it guys!!!

PS. As my oldest son wrote at school a few years back, "My Brother is an Alien!" Maybe you are pointing your antenna the wrong direction ?
