Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
1-3I think ETs may exist, but i have the since that they may be so far away from us that we may need a huge upgrade in our technology just to be able to detect them. Whatever we are doing now is obviously not enough... Unfortunatly research of the cosmos has been put on the backburner in favor of domestic issues, which is understandable because the average person has no knowlege of astronomy and/or see it as as unnaccessably complex science of physics and uncomprhensable jargon. If this effort spent more time doing much needed PR to arrouse awareness and simplify the explemation of the method of reserch and its mission, then I believe more people would be open to contribute either volunteer time, money, computer bandwith, or whatever is nessicary facilitate this research. ( i also think Seti should offer incentives for completion of work units .ie tour of the Seti operation at Berkely, Free subscription to Scientific American magazine, or just a t-shirt or coffee mug |
