Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
It seems likely that the universe is teeming with life. The question should be when will, or when did intelligent life exist?
Although I am sure there are a million worlds with bacteria or their equivalent on them, it seems rather unlikely that
another technological society would arise at just the right time to send a signal we can hear - but you never know. Hopefully a very ancient
one has had the foresight to leave the old fashioned radio beacon running for a few miilion years.
The first signs of life are likely to be from planetary spectra gained from deep space telescopes in the future IMHO.
I see no dangers from such a discovery at all.
A beacon - of course - what information to send? Well, hello is a good start - then maybe a 3d picture of one of us. I think Britney Spears would
be a good selection - I will of course be available to help scan the data in.
I run SETI because I think its important - it is work that simply must be done.
