Personal background
I live in Fayetteville, North Carolina and I'm an Internet Specialist for a broadband cable company. I'm 35 years young and feel great! I also build/repair/network PCs in my off time and have created a nice little customer base for myself. I have a great wife that I couldn't live without as she is my strength through all hard times and, most importantly, the love of my life! We have an awesome dog named Rusty that we found in a dog shelter. He's a terrier mix that looks just like Benji. My hobbies include PC building and overclocking, gaming, volleyball and watching a good movie now and then.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
For humans to think we're alone in the universe is extremely selfish. There above us is a vast, open universe upon which exists numerous proven moons, planets, stars and galaxies. If it was a one-in-a-trillion long-shot that life evolved here on Earth, what's to say thet didn't happen elsewhere in the universe? At least in one form or another, life MUST exist out there. We may or may not ever see it proven in our lifetime, but to not believe and stop reaching for the stars would one day see to this planet's ruin. If we can't find ways to colonize other planets and moons, our civilization will definitely cease to exist one day. Seti's only a small player in that field. It would be nice to make contact with E.T. to learn of ways to accomplish those goals, but we shouldn't count on that happening.
Seti, in my opinion, is a great project that should be kept alive for as long as possible. I run Seti on 3 PCs at home. I do it to help the Seti cause and also to put to use all the left over CPU cycles that my overclocked PCs generate. A little competition between power users is fun also. ;-)
Please do your part to help Seti in any way you can. Run the program, even on slow PCs. Join the Planetary Society to help fund Seti if you can. It's not a worthless cause. BELIEVE
