Personal background
I'm from everywhere -- born in Hawaii, lived in over 20 states in the US and 4 foreign countries. Currently living in New York. I'm 57 and I'm a consultant who fixes (or at least attemps to fix) large complex problems in large complex corporations. I love skiing, biking and running (have done 4 New York City Marathons).

I'm married to a wonderful French woman who is the joy of my life and have 4 cute kids (1 out of college, 1 in college, 2 in scarey teeny land.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Yes; however, we may not be able to recognize it. I don't think we have a chance for at least another 100 years. Our technology is too limited and space is just too big and getting bigger faster. It would be by chance if another race contacted us and I consider that very unlikely.

I think an obvious benefit would be to unite the various peoples of the world. Racial differences wouldn't seem so great.
