Personal background
Hi, I'm from Darlington County Durham In the U.K.
I now live about 8 miles north of my town of birth
Darlington was the starting place of passenger steam railways of which i am very proud.
I am now 63 a retired storekeeper/manager (Engineering)
I have we have 2 children and 6 grandchildren
Life can be fun if you don't weaken.
The best way to stay safe is DON'T sober up
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1. I think there is a good possibility of extraterrestrial life
When we discover it is just a matter of time either we get a visit
sometime in the future, (If the life is intelligent) or we pick up a
transmitted signal.
The other possibility Is that our engineers and scientists discover
lifeforms unknown to us in their exploratry attempts

Should there be intelligent life out there and we are visited then
the American military CIA and other security agencies will have to
get over their paranoid tendencies put their weapons on safe and
try communication instead of violation.
Let the scientists and engineers handle the situation. this is the only
danger I see unless we are openly attacked

As with the meeting of any two cultures there is a lot to learn this
is a two way street

2. Yes we should transmit a beacon to aid any possible exploration from alien
life this is a difficult area as any alien form will not use the same
references to the objects in space as we do they may not have similar
characteristics of our human lifeform any information transmitted should
I would think be in mathmatical and graphical form.

3. I run Seti@home as a matter of interest with optimism
The programme is worthwhile and is doing no harm to anyone, for those
who are more involved with the programme I see a vast community
spirit
